Anxiety and Panic
Anxiety is on the increase. As our world gets smaller and faster, the pressure increases and anxiety and panic are often the results. We are all anxious and fearful at times. This is quite natural; it is a survival instinct to protect us from danger. It is called the "fight or flight response". The problem is, in the modern world neither response may be appropriate and so the pressure is internalised. If the anxiety is out of proportion to the perceived threat, it becomes a problem, and often a very distressing and debilitating problem too. Anxiety and panic can be provoked by a wide variety of triggers. They can be a reaction to trauma or stress (such as an accident or personal loss) to a particular object or situation (fears of spiders, heights, dental treatment to name but a few of the most common), or to a particular task such as driving, exams, public speaking...and the list just goes on. Panic attacks, intrusive thoughts and more generalised anxiety can be helped by hypnotherapy In hypnosis, we can learn to dispel these feelings using relaxation and accessing coping strategies for stresses, both past and present. |
